Stephanie strikes wushu hat-trick in Sukma

KUCHING: Sarawak's wushu exponent Stephanie Ngu stamped her mark at the Malaysia Games (Sukma) by securing her third gold medal here today.

The 20-year-old won the women's qiangshu final with a score of 9.606 points.

Although it initially appeared that Stephanie might miss out on the gold, she managed to improve her scores, and overtake her rivals.

Federal Territories' Lee Cheng Wei took home the silver while bronze went to Penang's Tang Koh Ming.

Stephanie, making her final Sukma appearance, said she was determined to leave a lasting impression by winning more golds for hosts Sarawak.

"To be honest, I didn't expect to win three golds for Sarawak. I hope this achievement will inspire other young Sarawak athletes to achieve success at Sukma."

With her victory today, Stephanie is currently the athlete with the most number of gold in this edition of the Sukma. She won the jianshu and changquan golds earlier.

This is Stephanie's fourth Sukma, aving won two bronzes in 2016, one silver in 2018 and one bronze in 2022.
