KUCHING: The Penang contingent proved they could challenge the wushu powerhouses at the Sarawak Malaysia Games (Sukma) after winning two gold medals at the Wushu Hall of SSC today.
Penang's Danish Aizad Firdaus Chua stamped his mark in the sport after securing his second gold in men's Gunshu.
The 20-year-old excelled with a strong performance, scoring 9.603 points to defeat his rivals.
The silver was won by Sabah's Ericsson Bong Cheng Loong (9.590) while the bronze went to Melaka's Lee Ronn (9.576).
Yesterday, Danish won the men's Changquan gold after collecting 9.620.
Danish said he underwent intensive training for the Sarawak Sukma.
"I just hoped not to make any mistakes and try my best," said Danish who was competing in his third Sukma.
Penang also assured themselves of the the men's Qiangshu gold after their representative, Lim Jue Xin, earned the highest score of 9.613 points.
Jue Xin surpassed Federal Territories' Alvyn Toh (9.600, silver) and Negri Sembilan's Hong Hao Ren (9.576, bronze).
In the women's Gunshu, Melaka's Wong Kai Xin came out tops with 9.603. The silver went to Sarawak's Fong Chai Xin (9.496) while Penang's Coleen Cheah won the bronze (9.486).
