Sukma 2024: After throwing heavy things, Jonah Chang does gardening

KUCHING: After a fruitful outing at the Malaysia Games (Sukma), athlete Jonah Chang Rigan looks forward to returning to his hometown of Sarikei with its orchard of durian, dabai, petai and bananas.

Jonah, 21, said whenever he gets the chance to return home, he does gardening, which he feels is a good way to relax after the intense training and competitions.

"After the Sukma, I'll head back to my hometown for a month-long holiday. I haven't been home for a while due to training and competitions.

"Every time I go back, I do some gardening. My parents are quite busy with their work as teachers and sometimes have outstation duties. My younger siblings are still in school." he said.

Yesterday, Jonah broke the Sukma men's shot put record with a gold-winning throw of 17.66 metres in the final at Stadium Sarawak. The previous record of 17.31m was set by Terengganu's Adi Alifuddin in 2010 in Melaka.

Jonah, who holds the national record of 18.46m, eyes two more Sukma golds: the discus and hammer throw.
