Sukma 2024: Teenager powers to women's discus gold

KUCHING: Sarawak's Pauline Ului showed maturity beyond her years to win the women's discus gold at the Sarawak Malaysia Games (Sukma) today.

The 16-year-old topped the results sheets after clearing 38.50 metres at the Sarawak Stadium which was not far off her personal best of 40m.

Perlis' Farhana Izurein Faizal Amizul took silver (38.41m) while Selangor's Sasha Alyssa Philip claimed bronze (37.62m).

"To be honest I was quite nervous because this is my first Sukma. It is also the biggest competition I have competed in," said Pauline.

"The rainy weather today did not make it any easier. I just focused on trying to better my personal best.

"I felt so relieved after being named the winner."

Federal Territories' Kristian Tung continued his strong form in Sarawak by winning the men's 1,500m gold in four minutes and 4.62 seconds.

Perak's Shawn Roshan Singh claimed silver on 4:04.94s while Sabah's Ahsan Atta Ur Rahman took bronze (4:07.54s).

Kristian had earlier today won the men's 10,000m gold.

The women's 1,500m event saw Johor's S. Geetha claim gold on 4:45.16s. Sarawak's Chanda Cevester Empari took silver (4:54.29s) while Selangor's C. Taarini claimed bronze (4:58.52s).
