Sukma 2024: Silat competition put on pause after bottle throwing incident

KUCHING: The silat event at the Sarawak Malaysia Games (Sukma) turned chaotic when irresponsible spectators threw bottles into the arena at the City Stadium in Miri today.

The embarrassing incident occurred during the quarter-final bout in the women's under 45-kilogram category between Sarawak's Iman Syakilla Mahdi and Federal Territories' Nurin Alyaa Damia Masran.

Nurin was leading when the match was halted. A quick check on the Sukma 2024 app shows that it has been suspended.

Following the incident, Utusan Borneo reported that the organising committee stopped matches in both Arena One and Arena Two to prevent further issues.

The decision on whether to resume the matches will be made by the competition committee after further discussions.

However, it is understood that all contingents have been instructed to return to their accommodations for the time being.
