KUCHING: After clinching the archery gold at the Malaysia Games (Sukma) today, Terengganu's Aiman Syafiq Tariki will now turn his attention to a new goal — becoming a physical education teacher.
Aiman will take a three-day break before starting his studies at the Raja Melewar Institute of Teacher Education (IPG) on Monday.
The 18-year-old concluded his Sarawak Sukma campaign with two gold medals and one silver.
Today, Aiman, Amiruddin Zulkifli, and Hazmi Aisar Azmi secured the men's compound team gold medal by narrowly defeating Sabah's Aloysius Gabriel Liew, Irfan Sobrun Masahudi and Nathaniel Tan 226-221 in the final.
"My ambition has always been to become a teacher because my mother is also an educator.
"I draw inspiration from her, and after this, I will be entering IPG in Seremban to study physical education," he said.
Aiman's journey into archery was serendipitous.
"I never considered becoming an archer. It all started when my mother's friend introduced me to the sport," he added.
Meanwhile, the Federal Territories team, comprising Afiq Zufar Shah, Rayn Hamka and Faiq Azim Shahrir, won the bronze medal by defeating Melaka's Aniq Faris Azmin Fadli, Zul Adzrin Zainuddin and S. Praveen 222-219.
