Sukma 2024: Terengganu, Federal Territories end taekwondo campaign on a high

KUCHING: Terengganu and Federal Territories (FT) had plenty to smile about on the final day of the taekwondo competition at the Sarawak Malaysia Games (Sukma) today.

Terengganu's Arun Raj Ram Bharat did well to defeat FT's Low Zhan Feng 2-1 in the final and clinch gold in the men's under-74 kilogramme class.

Negri Sembilan's T. Thuraivel and Perak's Ri Ky Chong took bronze.

Arun said winning the gold made all his hard work and sacrifices made by his family in preparing for the competition worthwhile.

"It was tough as I did not have transport to go for training. I live in Shah Alam but the second and third phase training camps were held in Terengganu," said Arun.

"The first phase training camp was held in Shah Alam so it was not an issue.

"But my dad had to send me to Terengganu and later pick me up for the second and third phases so it cost us a lot."

Meanwhile, the women's under-62kg class saw FT's Nur Izzati Najwa Mohd Zaki claiming gold. Terengganu's Sara Nur Ibtisam Safawi took silver while Perak's Wannur Syifa Mohd Riduan and Johor's Masturina Mahadzir claimed bronze.
