Paris 2024: Askuzaimey to fight for boccia bronze

KUALA LUMPUR: Boccia player Noor Askuzaimey Mat Salim is now one match away from winning Malaysia's first medal of the Paris Paralympics.

Askuzaimey's quest for gold came to an end after losing 7-0 to Hong Kong's Cheung Yuen in the women's BC4 (physical impairment) semi-finals at the South Paris Arena today.

But she will get the chance to win bronze when she plays Colombian Leidy Chica in the third place decider later today (early tomorrow in Malaysia).

Askuzaimey, 38, had beaten Chrysi Metzou (Greece) 7-0 in the quarterfinals yesterday. She had earlier this week topped group B after winning all three of her matches.

In track cycling, Nur Azlia Syafinaz Mohd Zais and her pilot Nurul Suhada Zainal settled for eighth from 10 riders after clocking three minutes and 49.029 seconds in the women's B (visual impairment) 3,000 individual pursuit qualifying round today.

Only the top-four advanced to the medal races.
