KUALA LUMPUR: National No. 2 Rachel Arnold survived a marathon battle to reach the quarter-finals of the US$50,000 Open Squash Classic in New York on Monday.
The fourth-seeded Malaysian overcame Hong Kong's Chan Sin Yuk in a thrilling 47-minute contest, winning 9-11, 12-10, 4-11, 11-6, 11-6.
World No. 29 Rachel now faces England's sixth seed Katie Malliff for a spot in the semi-finals.
However, it was the end of the road for two other Malaysians.
World No. 52 Ainaa Amani fought hard to defeat Canada's Nicole Bunyan 9-11, 11-9, 11-7, 11-3 in the first round but was beaten 11-6, 11-9, 11-6 by Egypt's fifth seed Mariam Metwally in the second.
National No. 3 Addeen Idrakie also fell at the first hurdle, losing 11-7, 13-11, 8-11, 13-11 to American Shahjahan Khan.
