KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's Yee Xin Ying pulled off three upset wins, including a victory over world No. 60 Nardine Garas in the final, to clinch the US$15,000 Open De Lagord title in France yesterday (Oct 19).
The world No. 107 from Sabah needed just 24 minutes to secure an 11-8, 11-9, 11-2 win over the Egyptian to claim her second PSA Tour crown.
The 20-year-old Xin Ying also defeated England's world No. 50 Torrie Malik (second round) and compatriot Sehveetrraa Kumar, ranked 85th, in the semi-finals.
"I'm thrilled to have won my second title this year after the Ace Challenger Cup in July," said Xin Ying.
"It wasn't easy going up against higher-ranked players.
"I'm just grateful for the opportunity and can't wait to see what's next.
"After every setback, we have the chance to bounce back stronger."
Meanwhile, world No. 30 Rachel Arnold lost 12-10, 11-8, 11-4 to Japan's No. 12 Satomi Watanabe in the first round of the US Open in Philadelphia yesterday (Oct 19).
