KUALA LUMPUR: Up-and-coming squash player Xin Ying Yee stunned second seed Habiba Hani of Egypt to set up an all-Malaysian women's final against K. Sehveetrraa in the ACE Challenger second leg in Kerteh, Terengganu, on Saturday.
The eight-seeded Ying Yee overcame a first-game blemish to beat the world No. 105 Egyptian 9-11, 11-7, 11-8, 11-4 in the semi-finals.
It was not Ying Yee's first upset in the tournament. On Friday, she blanked fourth seed Nour Khafagy of Egypt 11-7, 11-8, 11-7 in the last eight.
Kuala Lumpur-born Ying Yee will face third seed Sehveetrraa in the final on Sunday.
Sehveetrraa defeated Egypt's Malak Fathy 11-2, 14-12, 11-5 in her semi-final match.
Ying Yee said the win over Habibi is a morale booster after losing to the Egyptian in a PSA tournament last year.
"I am regaining my form after an eight-month hiatus due to injury. I hope to have another good match against Sehveetrraa in the final," said the 20-year-old
In the men's competition, top seed Syafiq Kamal overcame third seed Ravindu Laksiri of Sri Lanka 11-7, 11-3, 11-8 to set up a date with fourth seed Yassin Shohdy of Egypt in the final.
Yassin defeated sixth seed Duncan Lee 11-6, 11-8, 11-7 in the other semi-final.
Syafiq expects a strong challenge from Yassin in a bid to win his first title this year.
