Six more sports to get additional funding from government

KUALA LUMPUR: Six more sports preparing for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics will receive extra funding from the Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS).

The six sports are diving, badminton, cycling, squash, swimming and athletics.

Previously, Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh announced that weightlifting, archery, taekwondo and shooting will each receive an additional RM1 million in funding.

Speaking after officiating the KBS Masters Championship yesterday, Yeoh said it's vital to focus on talent development in these 10 sports.

"It's not just four sports, we actually received funding for 10 sports. These were selected for talent development because they are included in the Olympic Games, and it's crucial for Malaysia to have various efforts in place to nurturetalent in these areas," she said.

The inaugural KBS Masters Games, which involve participants over the age of 40, have attracted over 1,500 entries and will be held from tomorrow to Sunday."There will be 12 sports contested this weekend, and I hope that this event will raise awareness, encouraging more sports associations to engage senior citizens in such competitions," said Yeoh."I hope for this event to become an annual event, targeting 3,000 participants next year."
