Malaysia eSports Federation demands action over Jalur Gemilang insult

PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysia eSports Federation (MESF) has received a response from Moonton Games over two incidents involving disrespect towards the Jalur Gemilang within the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) community.

The national eSports governing body confirmed they had lodged an official complaint with the video game developer.

"We acknowledge the swift action by the MLBB Professional League Indonesia (MPLID) to delete the post and take firm measures on this matter.

"We strongly urge that appropriate action be taken against the individual involved to ensure such incidents do not recur.

"We have also accepted Mobazane's public apology," MESF said on its Facebook page.

The federation also proposed guidelines to prevent similar situations in the future.

"These guidelines should clearly outline the responsibilities and actions required from individuals and organisations," the statement added.

The first incident involved American player Michael "MobaZane" Cosgun, who posted an Instagram Story with the word "noob" written above a graphic of the Jalur Gemilang.

In gaming slang, "noob" is a derogatory term mocking inexperienced players.

Cosgun has since deleted the post and issued a public apology.

The second incident arose after Malaysia's 2-1 victory over Indonesia in the semi-finals of the World Championships.

A graphic on the MPLID Instagram page featured a distorted Jalur Gemilang, showing only 11 red and blue stripes.

The controversial post was also deleted.

MESF reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the dignity of the Jalur Gemilang and urged all stakeholders to act responsibly.
