Homebois coach quits after quarter-final exit in Riyadh

KUALA LUMPUR: Khairul Azman "Pabz" Sharif resigned as head coach of Homebois after their quarter-final loss in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) Mid-Season Cup (MSC) in Riyadh.

Malaysia's Homebois went down 3-2 to Singapore's NIP Flash after a ding dong battle. NIP Flash will meet Selangor Red Giants in the semi-finals on Saturday.

The heart-wrenching loss saw Khairul announcing his resignation in the post-match press conference yesterday.

"I think the defeat made everyone sad. Our performance was not encouraging and the players should not be blamed for the mistakes," said Khairul, who started coaching Homebois last August. He also guided Homebois to the group stage of the MLBB M5 World Championship in Manila last year.

"I take responsibility as the head coach. The result of our shortcomings is probably due to weaknesses in training, lack of discipline in implementation, and so on.

"As the head coach of Homebois, I resign and will take a step away from Homebois.

"For Homebois to move forward, we hope everything can be better, and we need to improve our discipline and decision-making."

Homebois, who finished second to Selangor Red Giants in MPL Malaysia this year, earned their berth in the MSC group stage after coming out tops in the wildcard stage. They defeated Entity7 of Peru 3-1 in the decider to advance to the competition proper.

In Group C, Homebois lost 2-0 to Liquid Echo of the Netherlands before beating Serbia's Team Spirit and Twisted Minds of Saudi Arabia 2-0 respectively to finish runners-up and advance to the quarter-finals.
