Hannah Yeoh urges badminton fans not to speculate on MACC investigation

KUALA LUMPUR: Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh has urged the public not to speculate and let the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) complete its investigations into the BA of Malaysia (BAM).

Yeoh said today that she only became aware of the issue after reading news reports.

"When there's an anonymous complaint, the investigating body will come in. But unless there is proof and until the investigation is complete, it's premature to comment about it," Yeoh said.

"BAM is one of the better managed associations, they have been around for a long time.

"I think the MACC will be able to find documents they need to aid in their investigation. So let's just wait for them, let's not speculate and be fair to BAM while we wait for the outcome (of the investigation)," Yeoh said.

A web portal has reported that BAM was visited by MACC officers last week. It also said that MACC is investigating allegations that a high-ranking BAM officer had received unauthorised allowances.

BAM acting president Datuk V. Subramaniam and secretary general Datuk Kenny Goh were reportedly called by MACC to give statements.

Subramaniam, when contacted by Timesport, declined to comment on the issue.

Earlier today, BAM released a statement confirming that the national body had been visited by MACC officers.

"We extended our full cooperation during the visit," the statement said.

Timesport has reached out to MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki for comment.
