KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia, led by world No. 10 S. Sivasangari, opened their World Team Squash Championships campaign in style, thrashing Macau 3-0 in their Group E tie at the Hong Kong Football Club today.
Sivasangari set the tone with a commanding 11-0, 11-3, 11-9 victory over Gigi Yeung in just 15 minutes.
Two-time national champion Aira Azman followed suit, sweeping aside Leng Lam Leong 11-1, 11-3, 11-4 in 14 minutes.
Aifa Azman sealed the win with an 11-5, 11-6, 11-0 rout of Kwai Chi Liu.
National coach Andrew Cross praised the team's performance against Macau.
"I hope they can continue their impressive performance against tougher opponents in the coming days," said Cross.
Malaysia will face France and Ireland tomorrow, with a top-two finish in Group E required to secure a spot in the knockout stage.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian men's team, led by world No. 13 Ng Eain Yow, will begin their Group E campaign tomorrow with matches against Scotland and the Philippines.
