EVERYTHING about the revamped Honda Wave Dash F1, from its swanky looks to improved performance and cost-saving efficiency, is meant for the young Malaysian motorcyclist looking to own a bike for the first time.
The people at Boon Slew Honda, Malaysia’s leading bike manufacturer, make no secret about their intention to go for the young ones.
“The younger Malaysian customer is living a fast-paced lifestyle and seeking for a trendy and stylish ride,” said Boon Siew Honda managing director and chief executive officer Nobuhide Nagata at the launch of the new Wave.
“Hence, we have been constantly improving the design as well performance (of the Wave) to fulfil the young rider’s desire and demand.”
Nagata and team clearly understand their audience. For the launch, they brought in street jumpers to perform parkour and followed it up with young and stylish Tarik Jean models rocking the stage at the official preview of the ride.
The bike itself is proof that Honda put a lot of work into the design.
Boon Siew Honda promised the young ones a modern and trendy ride to serve their fashion requirement and it did just that with graphics inspired by grey military camouflage and the geometric graphic from the bigger Honda CB models.
They also revamped the design of the Wave’s muffler by tapering it off at the front and at the end of the surface.
Like the graphics, the effect of the new muffler design is immediate: one feels like one is riding a faster, meaner machine and not a 109cc bike.
The Wave has a four-stroke, single-cylinder air-cooled engine paired to a four-speed automatic gearbox with a constant mesh that delivers 8.6hp at 7,500rpm and 11.61 Nm torque at 6,000rpm.
The bike’s improved fuel consumption should translate into meaningful savings over time.
Honda says the bike is now rated at 61km/L from last year’s 58.7km/L. The cruising distance of the Wave Dash FI has also been improved from 234.8km to 244km.
The Honda Wave Dash F1 comes in two variants — the single-disc brake Type S and the two-disc Type R with disc brakes front and rear. The “S” model weighs in at 102kg and the “R” model is 104kg. Both models utilise a four-speed gearbox and final chain drive.
The Type S (single-disc brake) is priced at RM5,860.74 and the Type R (double-disc brake) at RM6,178.74 (Goods and Services Tax included).
A Wave Dash F1 “R” in special Repsol edition is also available at RM6,337.74 (GST included).
All prices exclude road tax, insurance and registration.
The bikes come with a two-year or 20,000km manufacturing warranty, whichever comes first, and three colours: Pearl Nightfall Blue, Pearl Magellanic Black and Vivacity Red.
