Prabowo: I will take salary and use official car

INDONESIA'S Prabowo Subianto recently turned the tables on his own party aides over issues surrounding his salary and official car.

According to the Jakarta Post, aides to the Defence Minister and Gerindra Party chairman had earlier said Prabowo would not take his salary nor use the official car he is entitled to as a minister.

He claimed he did not know where the statement came from.

"We will take our salary and use it well.

"I will also use the official car. Though I still prefer to return home in Hambalang, Bogor in West Java, I will state at my official residence from time to time," he said.

Prabowo's spokesman, Dahnil Anzar had informed the public on Twitter that rumours about the former military general's decision not to take his salary as a minister were true.

Gerindra deputy secretary Andre Rosiade had echoed Dahnil’s statement, saying that Prabowo would not take the salary and would not use the official car.

Andre said he also did not know whether Prabowo would also refuse to take the ministerial allowances or whether the salary he was entitled to would be donated to charity.

Gerindra Party executive Desmond J. Mahesa said Prabowo might feel he had received enough with his earnings as a businessman.

Although relatively unknown, Prabowo and his younger brother Hashim Djojohadikusumo control the Nusantara Group business empire, which has a total of 27 companies engaged in the plantation, forestry, mining and energy sectors.
