Polri to render strong support in relocation of capital

THE National Police of Indonesia (Polri) assured its support to relocate the new capital, touted as Nusantara, in East Kalimantan from here and overcome any challenges along the way.

National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo said this in a statement after inspecting the site in the North Penajam Laser area over the weekend, according to Antara news agency.

Listyo said his visit was to assess the ongoing development while checking and anticipate any foreseeable disturbances and obstacles in the future capital's development.

"We want to know the condition on the field, and then we can help the construction progress so that it can run as planned," he said in a statement issued to the media.

Listyo said obstacles and problems in major developments such as the plan to relocate the national capital, of which the first phase that has been set in motion by the government until 2024, is inevitable.

"However, those problems can be resolved through deliberation so that, in general, there would be no significant obstacles in the progress of the new capital's development," he said.

Listyo urged all to support the development of the new capital and expressed the hope that stakeholders would work according to their respective tasks to ensure the smooth running of the development.

The new capital is part of the government's efforts to improve equity and reduce inequality among Indonesians, he said.

"We see that the capital city has a smart forest concept and that is in line with what has become an international agreement, in which the capital city development plan will have an environmentally friendly vision and become a hope and can be a source of pride for all of us," he added.
