HONEY LACUNA was proclaimed winner in the capital city here during the election to become the first female mayor.
Lacuna, the outgoing vice mayor, was proclaimed Manila mayor on Wednesday night, the Philstar.com portal reported.
She received 538,595 votes based on the official canvassed results while her running mate, congressman Yul Servo, won as vice mayor with 586,855 votes.
Other aspirants as mayor in the May 9 elections, Alex Lopez, polled 166,908 votes, former congressman Amado Bagatsing (118,694) Christy Lim (14,857) Elmer Jamias (4,057) and Onofre Abad (2,618).
In an interview broadcasted by dzMM, Lacuna said she will continue programmes set in place by the outgoing Mayor Francisco Moreno, who has conceded defeat in the presidential race.
She also extended an invitation to Moreno to join the local party she belongs to, the Asenso Manileño.
Lacuna also said she would continue the city's allowances for senior citizens, persons with disabilities and solo parents, as well as the construction of schools and hospitals.
Programs of cleaning up the streets of Manila and removing illegal vendors will remain a priority, along with transparency measures at city hall, such as digitalisation of transactions, she said.
