Watch: Drama as power bank explodes on Royal Brunei Airlines flight

KUALA LUMPUR: A power bank exploded and caught fire during a Royal Brunei Airlines flight from Hong Kong to Bandar Seri Begawan on Thursday, but the aircraft landed safely at its destination and no one was injured in the incident.

News of the in-air emergency was broken by Malaysian Francis Ngu, who posted several videos and photos of the event on Facebook. It is not clear if Ngu was a passenger on the flight.

According to the Straits Times, the Brunei national carrier later confirmed the incident in a statement.

Ngu’s video clips and photos – which have gone viral on social media – show the cabin of the BI636 flight filled with light smoke, as crew members attempt to extinguish the fire and relieve passengers’ concerns.

Some are seen covering their worried faces from the smoke, and standing in their seats for a better look at the source of the fire.

However, there was no discernible panic among those onboard, as the stewards and stewardesses calmly handled the situation.

The crew were praised by Ngu, who said that they dealt with the matter with professionalism and composure.
