KFC Malaysia opens its 701st restaurant in UTM Gurney Mall

KUALA LUMPUR: KFC Malaysia, a fast food chain and leading QSR brand in Malaysia, launched its 701st KFC Restaurant at UTM Gurney Mall in Jalan Semarak today.

The launching ceremony was graced by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who did a courtesy visit to the outlet.

KFC UTM Gurney Mall was built from a strategic collaboration between QSR Brands (M) Holdings Bhd, the sole operator of KFC and Pizza Hut restaurants in Malaysia and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Holdings Sdn Bhd (UTM), to enhance the commercial offerings and dining experience to the residents, students and working community around the area.

QSR Brands president and chief executive officer Datuk Kamaruzzaman Abu Kassim said the commercial collaboration with local public universities such as UTM is an excellent strategy for the company to expand its service network to leading campuses around the country.

"This will allow QSR Brands to further strengthen its position as a market leader in the country by tapping into the institutions’ resources.

"The opening KFC UTM Gurney Mall marks our 22nd KFC restaurant this year and this is in line with our goal of opening 23 outlets in total as part of KFC's brand development strategy,” he said.

Also present during the ceremony were Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik, QSR Brands managing director Datuk Seri Mohamed Azahari Mohamed Kamil and UTM vice chancellor Prof Datuk Ir. Dr. Wahid Omar.

The launching of KFC UTM Gurney Mall by Prime Minister was in tandem with the official launching of Residensi UTMKL, a latest residency project by the institution and UTM’s Premier Lecture in conjunction with MJIIT Japan Day 2018 at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.
