Cops to record editor's statement over Forest City 'casino' claims

KUALA LUMPUR: Police will record a statement from an English news portal's news editor over the publication of a report on the alleged plans to build a casino in Forest City, Johor.

Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, said the individual will be required to present the statement at Bukit Aman's Classified Crimes Unit at 11am tomorrow.

He said the investigation was being done following a police report lodged by Berjaya Group executive chairman Tan Sri Vincent Tan over an article titled 'Malaysia Mulls Casino at Forest City: Bloomberg'.

"Based on the report, the article allegedly contained were false, untrue, unsubstantiated and unverified claims.

"An investigation is being done under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act, Section 500 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998," he told reporters today.

Razarudin said police will also be recording a statement several other individuals including Tan, as well as Genting Malaysia Bhd chief executive officer Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay on the issue.

He said police have already contacted them to set a date to record their statements.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Berjaya and Genting had previously denied a Bloomberg report on the issue, and had called for action to be taken.
