2 killed, 37 injured in bus-trailer crash in Rompin

ROMPIN: Two people were killed while several others were injured when a bus landed on its side in a slope following an accident with a trailer at Jalan Bahau-Keratong near Muadzam Shah today.

The duo were among 39 people travelling on the bus when the accident occurred at 12.31am.

Rompin police chief Deputy Superintendent Nor Azman Yusof confirmed the incident, saying that two deaths have been reported so far, and police are in the process of gathering further details.

Meanwhile, a Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said a man and a woman died, while several other passengers are receiving treatment at Muadzam Shah Hospital and Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital in Kuantan.

He said initial investigations showed the express bus was carrying school teachers from Melaka to Terengganu when the accident occurred, while the lorry driver escaped unhurt.

The department, in a statement, said the Muadzam Shah fire station received additional manpower and assets from the Chini, Segamat, and Jempol fire stations to help extricate the trapped victims.
