Rela member dies after shotgun kept in motorcycle basket accidentally goes off

KOTA BARU: A People's Volunteer Corps (Rela) member died when a shotgun he kept in his motorycle basket went off, killing him instantly.

The incident occurred at 2.45am today, when the victim, Mohd Roddin Hashim, 45, from Kampung Kolam, Tok Uban in Pasir Mas, was riding the bike with his wife as a pillion rider.

The couple were believed be on their way to go hunting.

The Remington 12-bore shotgun, registered under Rela, was kept in the motorcycle's basket.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Hasanudin Hassan said the tragedy occurred as the couple had just left their home.

Hasanudin said the loaded shotgun went off, and shot Mohd Roddin in the throat, killing him instantly.

It was understood that Roddin's wife, then called for help.

His remains were taken to the Pasir Mas Hospital.
