Umno leader dismisses claims Friday meeting will discuss Zahid's presidency

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno today said its Supreme Council meeting this Friday will most likely not talk about the status of its president, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Supreme Council member Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin said this was because no special motion on the matter has been forwarded to the Supreme Council members.

"Traditionally, any special motion will have to be presented to the Supreme Council members first.

"Whatever it is, the Umno president has decided to stay put and everyone should respect his decision.

"To me, this matter has been settled and need not be brought up again," she said when contacted by NSTP today.

Rosnah was commenting on a report today claiming that Umno Supreme Council members will discuss Zahid's position in the party in its meeting on Nov 9.

This was in view of the 45 charges of graft, money laundering and criminal breach of trust pressed against the former deputy prime minister.

The report, quoting unnamed sources, also said that Umno Youth's call for Zahid to take leave in view of the court cases, was also on the agenda.

On Oct 25, Umno Youth urged Zahid to consider taking leave and cease from performing his duties as president until the court case was over.

Its chief Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said this was to ensure that Zahid would not be burdened by other matters facing the party.

Meanwhile, another Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican declined to elaborate when asked about the agenda of the upcoming meeting.

"At the moment, I have no information on the matter (discussion on Zahid's status)," he said.

"Maybe Umno secretary general (Tan Sri Annuar Musa) has more details on the meeting agenda." he said.
