SHOPHOUSE residents in Jalan Kuchai 13, Kuchai Entrepreneurs Park, Kuala Lumpur, have been plagued by fumes and noise from a restaurant.
The strong smell of stale oil and a buzzing noise from the exhaust system are bothering residents.
Rufina Baptist, a resident, said: “The exhaust smell comes into my home, especially during lunch and dinner times. It’s a health hazard.
“The smell clings to my clothes, especially the ones that I hang out to dry.
“It’s like the smell of a dirty grease fry cooker that hasn’t been cleaned in years. It makes me nauseous.”
She said there was also a buzzing noise that bothered residents, especially those living in lower units.
“Something needs to be done. There is a constant buzz from the exhaust system.
“The restaurant’s ventilation system is so bad that the fumes come into our homes. We can’t even open our windows.”
ACTIONLINE:
Kuala Lumpur City Hall has instructed the restaurant to improve its exhaust system.
A spokesman said based on investigations by its enforcement team, the restaurant’s ventilation system had two units of oil traps.
“We were informed that the ventilation system would be improved and the ventilators reduced from five to one.
“City Hall will conduct follow-up investigations.”
