GEORGE TOWN: Federal Oats Mills Sdn Bhd (FOM) will expand its operations by establishing a new facility at the Halal Food Zone, Penang Science Park in Bukit Minyak.
Its executive director Michael Chew said the RM120mil plant will be built on 2.71ha to cater for growing business demand for oat products.
"This will help to ramp up our production of Captain Oats product including Instant Oatmeal, Quick Cook Oatmeal and Rolled Oats with the new facility able to produce up to 26 tons per house, equivalent to over four times than the current plant at Mak Mandin.
"FOM will also invest heavily in R&D in order to develop new product ranges. Amongst these will be oats-based cereal and food products which will deliver the hearty goodness of oats to consumers worldwide," he said in his speech at the groundbreaking of the factory’s new facility, here, today.
The new plant will also be designed in accordance to the latest Food Safety standards which will enable the company to meet international safety requirements.
Also present during the ceremony is Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.
FOM currently at the Mak Mandin Industrial Park is the only oat milling plant in South East Asia. The company was incorporated in 1965 and is a subsidiary of United Malayan Flour Sdn Bhd.
FOM produces its oatmeal under the Captain Oats brand, which is available in 35 countries across South East Asia, South Asia, Middle East, Africa and China.
