Honda Malaysia achieves 109,511 units in 2017, highest ever among non-national brands

KUALA LUMPUR: Honda Malaysia Sdn Bhd’s total sales soared 19 per cent to 109,511 units last year from 91,830 units in 2016, marking the highest record since its establishment in 2003.

Managing director and chief executive officer Toichi Ishiyama said 2017 was remarkable for the company, having achieved sales of more than 100,000 units - the highest among the non-national brand.

“For the first time ever, we surpassed the 100,000 units sales achievement within a calendar year. We continue to maintain our number one position for the non-national segment and number two position in overall total industry volume (TIV) of the automotive industry,” he said in a statement today.

Ishiyama said the company had also achieved a historical milestone with the 600,000th unit completely knocked down (CKD) production within the span of 14 years.

As at the end of 2017, Honda Malaysia’s market share stood at about 19 per cent.

Ishiyama said the central region contributed the highest percentage of sales at 47 per cent, followed by southern region and northern region.

Honda Malaysia, he said, is all geared up to make 2018 another successful year with many exciting products and services in the pipeline.
