Boeing raises investments in Malaysia

BUKIT KAYU HITAM: The Boeing Company is committed to growing its presence in Malaysia to support its supply chain network for its commercial aircraft components via Aerospace Composites Malaysia Sdn Bhd (ACM).

ACM managing director Jose Garza expects Boeing to continue providing or extending contracts orders for its composite parts, while building the local skills in aerospace sector.

“We are honoured and excited to continue in our tradition of innovation and progress. The 1.5 millionth part milestone signals our intent and continued commitment to growth and prosperity for ACM, employees and the state of Kedah,” he said after celebrating ACM’s 1.5 millionth part milestone ceremony here today.

The aerospace composites manufacturing has gradually becoming an important industry with about 13,000 new aviation jobs created each year in Malaysia.

Meanwhile, Kedah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mukhriz Tun Mahathir said the state government’s focus had always been on high-value add industry with capital intensive for locals.

“Although we want jobs, we don’t need more labour intensive industries employment but rather high-value jobs in Kedah. For example, ACM fits perfectly our plan,” he said.

Mukhriz said the state government would be working on developing infrastructure for new industrials, particularly Kulim High-Tech Park.

“Once we get it done, it would be realistic for us to have a forecast on bow much investments that we expect to come in,” he said, adding that high-technology industry would be the state’s primary focus to attract.
