KUALA LUMPUR: A grand funeral is set to be held for a man who was gunned down in broad daylight outside a restaurant in Johor Baru on Wednesday.
The wake for the man, 40, is being held in four-airconditioned halls at a memorial park in JB.
According to China Press, banners at the wake list the victim as an "important member" of Persatuan Penganut Agama Kuang Sheng.
Over 100 wreaths were also arranged in two full rows outside the halls.
Among the many wreaths, several bore messages such as "Beloved leader, may you rest in peace."
His obituary, posted on the association's Facebook page, hailed him as a "legendary hero of his generation."
Yesterday, it was reported that a large crowd, dressed in black, turned up at the mortuary where the man's body had been kept.
Earlier today, it was reported that police are looking into the possibility that the man's assassination-style killing was a "gang hit".
A source close to the investigation said the victim, 40, might have been targeted by a gang over information he provided to the authorities.
The source said one secret society emerging in the investigation was Ngo Seik Kee, or the "5 Colour" gang.
The gang is understood to be involved in drugs and repossessing cars.
It was reported that the victim in Wednesday's shooting had been questioned by the police last May.
The man was shot four times around noon while having lunch with friends. He had walked out of the restaurant to take a call before the broad daylight attack took place.
