KUALA LUMPUR: Pavilion Bukit Jalil, which is slated to open its doors in May 2021, has thus far secured 92,903sq m with its main tenants.
The mall is in the midst of negotiating to secure another 27,870.9sq m with other committed tenants.
The confirmed anchor tenants of the new mall are Parkson, Food Republic, The Food Merchant, Harvey Norman superstore, Pavilion Bukit Jalil ice rink and China’s second largest cinema chain; Dadi Cinema.
The announcement was made by Pavilion Bukit Jalil retail planner Datuk Joyce Yap during the unveiling ceremony, here, today.
The mall, referred to as the “Icon of Connectivity” is located in Bukit Jalil, in the southern corridor of the Klang Valley.
Besides catering to the local market, the mall is also aiming to capture 10 to 15 per cent of the foreign tourism market.
“As a regional destination mall, Pavilion Bukit Jalil aims to tap into the potential from millions of overseas tourists as well as local tourists that visit Kuala Lumpur every year”, Yap said.
“With 1.8 million sq ft in retail space, Pavilion Bukit Jalil will be the crown-jewel of the 50-acre integrated Bukit Jalil city, comprising retail, residential, commercial and hospitality components.
“We are targeting for Pavilion Bukit Jalil to be the next shopping paradise, as the size of the mall is 30 to 35 per cent larger than the existing Pavilion Kuala Lumpur”, she said.
Deputy Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Muhammad Bakhtiar Wan Chik, who was at the unveiling ceremony, praised the Pavilion team for their success with Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, which has proven to be a tourism icon.
“Over the years, Pavilion has represented remarkable quality of shopping experience.
“From my experience, I believe the Pavilion team will be able to replicate their success and have great things in store for Bukit Jalil”, he said.
Bakhtiar said, lifestyle and shopping activities of international tourist continue to be the biggest contributors to the tourism sector’s earnings.
Bakhtiar said the country recorded RM41.69 billion in tourist receipts in the first half of this year, representing a 6.8 per cent increase over the same period last year.
“The upward trajectory has shown a positive sign for the ministry to kick off an ambitious Visit Malaysia 2020 campaign, as the campaign targets 30 million tourist arrivals and RM100 billion in tourist receipts.
“With shopping as the number one tourism contributor, the opening of Pavilion Bukit Jalil will help solidify Kuala Lumpur’s position as one of the best shopping destinations in the region”, Yap said at a press conference later.
With its strategic location, Pavilion Bukit Jalil boasts excellent connectivity as it will be highly accessible to a catchment population of 1.9 million.
The regional mall will house five levels of retail space, two levels of basement parking with 4,717 car parks bays and a centralised green area measuring about 1.5ha.
