Omar Siddiq now CIMB Group officer-in-charge, following Tengku Zafrul's departure

KUALA LUMPUR: CIMB Group Holdings Bhd has announced that its group chief executive officer Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz has resigned from his position with immediate effect.

Tengku Zafrul had also resigned from all other board positions, the group said.

CIMB Group said it had appointed Omar Siddiq, currently group chief operating officer, as officer-in-charge for the group and CIMB Bank Bhd, with immediate effect.

“The board has begun its succession plan,” the group added.

Tengku Zafrul’s resignation follows his appointment as the new Finance Minister today.

CIMB Group chairman Datuk Mohd Nasir Ahmad said Tengku Zafrul had served the group for six years, when he re-joined in 2014.

Mohd Nasir said he had done an outstanding job, shaping CIMB Group’s transformation under its T18 and Forward23 strategic plans.

“His energy and commitment to CIMB will be difficult to match but he leaves behind a better organization with a stronger footing where he has united and instilled a strong CIMB culture.

“On behalf of the board I would like to thank Zafrul for all his contributions to the group and wish him well in his next role,” said Mohd Nasir.
