KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia looks forward to greater cooperation in investment and trade with the United States under the leadership of Donald Trump, who claimed victory in the US presidential election.
Investment Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz said he is ready to work with his counterparts in the new US administration on both bilateral and multilateral basis.
In a social media post, he highlighted that the US remains one of Malaysia's leading trading partners and top investors.
He also extended his congratulations to Trump on his election win.
"I join Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in congratulating Trump on his victory in the 2024 US Presidential Elections. The US and Malaysia have an enduring economic as well as trade partnership.
"The US has consistently been one of Malaysia's top trading partners and one of the largest investors in our country. Our people-to-people ties in various areas like education but also family and friendships have spanned generations.
"I am keen—especially with Malaysia assuming the 2025 Asean Chairmanship—to work with my counterparts in the new administration to strengthen and add mutual benefit to our relationship, whether on a bilateral or multilateral basis," he said.
Earlier today, Donald Trump claimed victory and pledged to "heal" the country as results put him on the verge of beating Kamala Harris in a stunning White House comeback.
Anwar has since congratulated Trump adding that Trump's comeback brings renewed opportunities, and Malaysia is ready to move forward with optimism, collaboration, and shared purpose.
