KUALA LUMPUR: UMW Holdings Bhd has appointed Azmin Che Yusoff as acting president and group chief executive officer (PGCEO), effective from June 5.
In an exchange filing today, UMW Holdings said the board had carried out the process of selecting a replacement for the position due to the passing of the late Badrul Feisal Abdul Rahim.
Azmin who had earlier retired from the group as
group chief operating officer (COO) and chief financial officer on June 30, 2019, had resumed service on April 1 as COO to facilitate execution of selected special projects and key initiatives under the group's transformation agenda.
UMW Holdings said Azmin's appointment was based on his vast experience, leadership maturity and deep understanding of the company's operations.
"The board believes that Azmin is able to bring strong leadership to ensure the continuity of ongoing initiatives in allowing the group to execute its strategies and plans that are already in place for its next stage of growth with minimum disruptions," UMW Holdings said.
Azmin started his career in Kontena Nasional Sdn Bhd in 1982 as an accounts executive and eventually as the chief executive officer from 2003 to 2008.
He later joined Landbridge Haulage (M) Sdn Bhd as executive director, finance.
In September 2009, he joined UMW Group as the executive director, group financial services division and was promoted to the position of group COO in October 2015.
Azmin holds a bachelor's degree in Accounting (Hons.) from University of Malaya and a Member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants. He also attended the Advanced Management Programme at the Harvard Business School, Boston, USA.
UMW Holdings said an interim board oversight committee comprising three non-executive directors namely Razalee Amin as its chairman, Datin Paduka Kartini Abdul Manaf and Dr Veerinderjeet Singh, was also constituted to provide board oversight and guidance to the acting PGCEO.
