KUALA LUMPUR: Ta Win Holdings Bhd will develop an estimated RM2.4 billion state-of-the-art eco-friendly industrial park in Terengganu.
Ta Win today said it had entered into a joint venture agreement with Perbadanan Memajukan Iktisad Negeri Terengganu for the development of Terengganu Ecocycle Park.
The copper products manufacturer said the park would be developed in four phases over nine years.
Spanning about 500 acres in Kemaman, the park would be the first-of-its-kind in Southeast Asia, Ta Win said.
It will comprise a core technology zone, sub-core technology zone and supporting technology zone, measuring 85 acres, 250 acres and 165 acres respectively.
Ta Win said Terengganu Ecocycle Park reflects the shared vision between the group and the state government to develop the first one-stop non-ferrous metal industrial ecosystem in Southeast Asia.
This will see the establishment of joint venture company, Ta Win Copper Ecocycle Sdn Bhd.
"Through the proposed joint venture, Ta Win and the Terengganu state government aim to create an industrial ecosystem with an ecocycle concept.
"It also aims to support both upstream and downstream industry participants along the supply chain of the non-ferrous metal industry," it said.
Ta Win group managing director Datuk Sri Ngu Tieng Ung said with the Terengganu Ecocycle Park, the company would be able to propel the sustainable long-term development of the non-ferrous metal industry.
"In fact, to lead the way forward and promote environmental conservation and sustainability in the non-ferrous metal industry supply chain, Ta Win will be relocating our existing headquarters and factories to the core technology zone of the Terengganu Ecocycle Park," said Ngu.
The park is inspired by Japan's Kitakyushu eco-town project, which has integrated environmental conservation, industry promotion and local community welfare policies, towards the country's aim of establishing a sustainable resource-recycling-based society.
"Based on the ecocycle concept which utilises the closed-loop system of development, conservation, destruction, and renewal that is seen in natural ecological systems, the park will see industry players form an industrial ecosystem to achieve long-term sustainability in the processes of raw materials procurement and production," Ta Win said.
The concept is expected to facilitate industry innovation, sustainable practices in the usage of recycled raw materials and waste reduction, addressing environmental conservation and climate change issues through responsible consumption and production, as well as encouraging collaboration between the public and private sectors to promote sustainable economic growth.
"Manufacturers will be able to benefit from lower input costs and cost savings due to the closed-loop system, as well as higher efficiency as manufacturing and production activities will be integrated.
"The park will also be strategically located with connectivity to Kuantan Port and Kuantan Airport," it said.
Ngu said the relocation of its operations would allow Ta Win to be further integrated into the supply chain of the non-ferrous metal industry, as upstream and downstream industry players would be pooled together to form an industrial ecosystem in the Terengganu Ecocycle Park.
This will also support the group's expansion strategy to scale up production capacity and business operations, while enjoying potential cost savings and improved connectivity due to the strategic location.
Ta Win has identified manufacturers with local and overseas operations in the non-ferrous metal industry which may be interested to operate at the park.
