Norliza's appointment as BAT Malaysia's new director aimed on diversity, sustainability

KUALA LUMPUR: British American Tobacco Malaysia Bhd (BAT Malaysia) newly appointed director Norliza Kamaruddin reflects the company's commitment to performance growth, diversity and sustainability.

Norliza, who was appointed as an independent non-executive director on 30 April 2021, is senior communications specialist with more than 25 years of experience in Malaysia and other markets.

BAT Malaysia chairman Tan Sri Dr Aseh Che Mat said the wealth of experience and skill-set that Norliza brings to the table will be an invaluable asset to the board of directors of BAT Malaysia.

"In addition to her leadership and fiduciary duties as a board member, we will also be looking to Norliza's experience in the areas of sustainability and communications to help us deliver our corporate purpose of 'A Better Tomorrow'," he said in a statement today.

Previously, she was Petroliam Nasional Bhd's global head of strategic communications, responsible for overseeing the communications strategy, corporate branding, sustainability and reputation management for the company in more than 30 countries.

Norliza is also the managing director for FTI Consulting Malaysia Sdn Bhd, a global public listed business advisory firm based in US.

Apart from that, Norliza is also the industry adjunct professor for strategic communications at Multimedia University Malaysia.

"It is a privilege to be appointed to the board of BAT Malaysia. I am inspired by the company's excellent track record in corporate governance as well as being a leading employer with a multitude of awards for talent development and initiatives for women in the workforce," Norliza said.
