Status of proposed Sungai Klang Expressway clarified

KUALA LUMPUR: Sungai Klang Expressway Sdn Bhd (SKESB) has clarified that the proposed Sungai Klang Expressway (SKE) has yet to receive approval from the federal and Selangor state governments.

In a statement, SKESB said submission had been made to both governments.

"SKESB made a submission to the Works Ministry on November 19, 2020. In response to the submission, SKESB was invited to present to the Jawatankuasa Penswastaan Kementerian Kerja Raya on May 27, 2021," the company said today.

SKESB was awaiting a response from the ministry, it added.

SKESB subsequently received a letter from Selangor state deputy secretary office on December 8, 2020 informing that the proposal for the SKE project was forwarded to the ministry.

"The letter said any response from the Work Ministry will be communicated to SKESB," the company said, adding that it had always placed great emphasis on complying to the due approval processes.

SKESB was responding to the Selangor government's denial of giving its nod to such expressway development.

Selangor denied giving approval to the construction of a new expressway named Sungai Klang Expressway as alleged in a video clip that went viral on social media recently.

State infrastructure and agriculture committee chairman Izham Hashim yesterday said the state government had probed into the video clip and found that there was no such project being approved for implementation in Selangor.
