Malaysia's largest Don Don Donki opens at Tropicana Gardens Mall

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia's second and biggest Jonetz by Don Don Donki store opens its doors today, with its local holding company Pan Pacific Retail Management (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd planning to open 11 new outlets by 2024.

Pan Pacific Retail also said that despite rising prices of goods, Jonetz by Don Don Donki products would not see any price increase for now.

"All our products are imported from Japan, so we go by our retail prices. The price increase does not affect us. Maybe the need to increase price will arise in the future but for the moment we won't be increasing our prices," Pan Pacific Retail president Satoshi Machida said at the opening of the second outlet at Tropicana Gardens Mall here today.

The store spans 42,243 sq ft across two levels and features a wide variety of quality Japanese products.

With the theme of a delicious "Japanese gourmet trip", the store provides famous dishes from various areas in Japan such as Takoyaki from Osaka and Ikayaki (grilled squid) from Hokkaido.

It also provides a dine-in area with 170 seats where customers can sit comfortably to enjoy the food they bought in the store, equipped with a water boiler and microwave oven for customers' convenience.

Machida said Tropicana Gardens Mall was chosen due to its accessibility and strategic location, as it is situated near an MRT station and is also easily accessible via other modes of public transport.

This follows the recent opening of its first Malaysian store located in Lot 10 earlier this year.

In conjunction with the launch of the new outlet, shoppers will receive a limited Donpen tote bag with a minimum spend of RM200, enjoy a RM15 rebate on Grabpay with a minimum spend of RM150 and an RM20 gift voucher for UOB Bank cardmembers who spend RM300 and above from December 10-12.

Shoppers are encouraged to download and sign up for a free membership on the DONKI mobile app which allows them to earn "dMiles" points, receive birthday surprise treats, redeem exclusive coupons and other benefits.

Pan Pacific Retail is the Malaysian retail division of Japanese company Pan Pacific International Holdings.

The latter has over 680 stores globally, 90 of which are located throughout Singapore, Hong Kong, Macau, Hawaii, Bangkok, Taiwan and Malaysia, and the rest across Japan.

Other than Malaysia, Don Don Donki is also expanding multiple stores in the Pan Pacific area, in countries such as Singapore and Hong Kong with the concept of Japan brand specialty stores.

Pan Pacific Group will continue to create new distribution channels with international competitiveness, steadily promoting store development in Malaysia, and actively expanding Japanese agricultural, livestock and marine products to increase the awareness and consumption of Japanese products outside Japan.

Meanwhile, Golden Screen Cinemas has also opened its latest 12-screen cinema in the mall.

It boasts six halls which include Onyx Cinema LED with Dolby Atmos, MX4D, GSC BIG with Dolby Atmos, PlayPlus family halls and GSC Premiere.

Tropicana group managing director Dion Tan said the opening of these two popular brands in the mall signified the confidence reputable retailers have in the mall.

"The mall opened its doors in the early stages of the pandemic in March 2020. Despite that, our tenancy rate had since doubled from 27 per cent to 56 per cent in November 2021, and is set to achieve 67 per cent by the end of this year," he added.
