TNB, SP Setia to offer smart energy, RE solutions at the latter's future projects

KUALA LUMPUR: Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) has formed a partnership with SP Setia Bhd to provide smart energy and renewable energy (RE) solutions to the latter's future property developments.

These include the installation of a rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) system as well as ensuring the properties are future-ready to support the installation of battery solution in SP Setia's upcoming residential and commercial developments.

TNB said the initiative offered customers of SP Setia the option to leverage on the solution once it was commercially available upon the end of the Net Energy Metering (NEM) quota.

The premises will also be designed to support the installation of electric vehicle (EV) chargers if the owners decide to install them later.

TNB said the initiative was in line with the group's sustainability pathway and SP Setia's environmental, social and governance (ESG) roadmap towards zero net carbon emissions by 2050.

Both giants in their respective sector signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the partnership today.

It was signed by TNB chief retail officer Datuk Ir Megat Jalaluddin Megat Hassan and SP Setia president and chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Choong Kai Wai.

Also present were Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Economy), Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, the Energy Commission CEO Abdul Razib Dawood, Permodalan Nasional Bhd CEO Ahmad Zulqarnain Onn, SP Setia chairman Tan Sri Syed Anwar Jamalullail and TNB chairman Datuk Seri Hasan Arifin.

TNB president and CEO Datuk Ir Baharin Din said the MoU would provide the group with an opportunity to help promote low carbon mobility as well as gain insights into property developers' preferences and expectations, thus enabling to identify its future strategic partners.

"TNB will also be involved at the early stage of the property development to provide smart energy solutions to SP Setia.

"Given our experience and expertise, we aim to leverage on the 41 active projects of SP Setia and propose relevant and precise products according to the company's needs," he said.

Choong said the strategic collaboration was expected to help SP Setia to optimise costs in its effort to develop property projects with sustainable energy.

"It will indirectly ensure SP Setia properties continue to be competitive, modern, up-to-date and of quality.

"This is an achievement in collaboration to provide sustainable energy solutions to our future property owners with the potential for significant savings in energy consumption as added value," he said.

Mustapa said the government hoped that other companies and organisations would emulate TNB and SP Setia in prospering the rakyat by creating residential areas of better environmental quality with green and sustainable energy sources.

"It is a special initiative that brings two different entities in the energy and housing industries, working hand-in hand towards a common goal that delivers benefits to the country. It is in line with the climate change and green technology," he said.
