KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia closed mixed as the index was supported by buying interests in energy, utilities and telco stocks.
At 5pm, FTSE Bursa Malaysia (FBM) KLCI rose 0.19 per cent or 3.07 points to 1,611.50.
The key index moved between 1,602.71 and 1,611.54 throughout the day.
The broader market saw losers led gainers 554 to 428 while 533 counters were unchanged.
On the index board, FBM100 and FBM Emas added 0.21 per cent to 11,910.84 and 12,205.71 respectively while FBM Ace rose 0.19 per cent to 5,141.61.
Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd equity research vice president Thong Pak Leng said the benchmark index has been in consolidation mode for two months due to a lack of buying interest.
"Nonetheless, the index remains well supported above the 1,600 level. Technically, the FBM KLCI is trending below all EMAs, suggesting ongoing consolidation until new catalysts emerge.
"As such, we anticipate the benchmark index will trend within the 1,600-1,630 range for the remainder of the week," he added.
