KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Genomics Resource Centre Bhd (MGRC) has appointed Datuk Seri Dr Chen Chaw Min as its new independent non-executive chairman, effective from July 15, 2022.
Chen will succeed Tan Sri Ahmad Mohd Don, who resigned on July 12, 2022.
Chen, who was appointed to the board on August 3, 2021, was in the civil service from 1988 until his retirement in February 2021.
He was the secretary-general of the Ministry of Health (MOH) from July 2015 until his retirement and had also served in various capacities in the Ministry of Finance (MOF) from 1990 until 2014.
Chen obtained a doctorate in finance from Universiti Putra Malaysia in 2005.
He received an MBA (Finance) from the University of Illinois in 1997 and a bachelor's in surveying from the University of Technology, Malaysia, in 1985.
Executive director Datuk Alvin Joseph said the company welcomed Chen to the board of MGRC as chairman and looked forward to working with him to ensure proper governance in its business operations.
"His extensive experience in the civil service and, in particular, in the MoH will be invaluable to us.
"Meanwhile, we would like to extend our thanks to Ahmad Mohd for his invaluable contributions and guidance to the board in executing their duties.
"We wish him all the best in his future endeavours," he said.
Chen said he feels privileged to take on this role at such an exciting time for MGRC.
He said the company is currently expanding downstream to healthcare services and pioneering holistic care, which will benefit many in the years to come.
"I hope that my experience in both MoH and MoF will be able to add knowledge and insights to support the company's growth," he added.
