PKNS targets RM600mil of property projects in 2022

KUALA LUMPUR: The Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) aims a total gross development value of RM600 million this year, subject to the market ability to buy its products.

Its chief executive officer Datuk Mahmud Abbas said the company was "very careful" before launching any new project as it had to examine the country's economic situation.

"We do not want to develop houses without any buyers. When we launch any product, we look at the market ability to buy our products so we got to keep our ears close to the ground to look at the economic situation.

"We are hoping to launch six more projects this year with total GDV of RM600 million but whether we will be launching or not, that is a different story. Nevertheless, we got that in the pipeline," he said.

He said the current value of houses being build under the company stood at between RM400 million and RM450 million.

Meanwhile, PKNS signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Bank Islam Malaysia Bhd to offer housing financing facilities based on Tawarruq principles.

The facilities are aimed at facilitating customers in obtaining housing financing as the bank offers packages for residential properties that are still under construction or those that have been completed.

The financing facilities provided by Bank Islam will run for up to 35 years or until the age of the applicant reaches 70 years, whichever is earlier.

Mahmud said PKNS was aware of the concerns surrounding the public with regards to home ownership especially during the current economic situation coupled with those who have difficulties in getting financing.

"Therefore, PKNS is swift in taking the initiative to collaborate with the financial institution to facilitate the financing process and offer affordable packages to enable our customers to become homeowners," he said during the signing ceremony.

Bank Islam group chief business officer (retail) Mizan Masram said the bank had confidence in the property market's potential especially as the country transitioned to the endemic phase.

"The MoU is not only focused at providing financing assistance to enable our customers get their dream homes, it also provides financial planning assistance to our customers who want to reorganise their finance," he said.

The financing facility is provided for all property products under PKNS that are under construction as well as those that have been built across Selangor.
