KUALA LUMPUR: KPJ Healthcare Bhd's net profit rose to RM27.09 million in the second quarter (Q2) ended June 30, 2022, from RM6.96 million a year ago.
Revenue rose to RM707.57 million in Q2 2022 from RM632.83 million last year.
This is due to an increase in the level of activities at its hospitals, as evident from increased inpatient visits by 14 per cent," the healthcare provider said.
For the six months ended June 30, 2022, KPJ Healthcare's net profit rose to RM49.29 million from RM19.93 million, while revenue increased to RM1.36 billion from RM1.24 billion previously.
As a result of its strong performance, KPJ Healthcare declared a third interim dividend of 0.55 sen per share, which is the company's highest payout to date.
The interim dividend of 0.55 sen per share, with a total aggregate payment of RM24.8 million, will be paid to the shareholders of KPJ Healthcare on October 21, 2022.
President and managing director Datuk Mohd Shukrie Mohd Salleh said that as Malaysia has already begun its transition into the endemic phase, the company is optimistic that the healthcare industry will continue to be central in the nation's economic recovery.
Shukrie said the continued demand for healthcare services is expected on the back of increasing mental and physical healthcare awareness and a shift in healthcare focus from hospitalisation to preventive care.
"Additionally, a strong resurgence in elective medical procedures and the recovery of the health tourism sector are also expected to bode well for the company's prospects moving forward," he said.
As of June 30, 2022, KPJ Healthcare's balance sheet remained healthy with a positive net cash position.
