Affin names Syed Mashafuddin Syed Badarudin as Affin Islamic CEO

KUALA LUMPUR: Affin Bank Bhd has appointed Datuk Paduka Syed Mashafuddin Syed Badarudin as the new chief executive officer of Affin Islamic Bank Bhd effective from Nov 8.

Affin Bank president and group chief executive officer Datuk Wan Razly Abdullah said Syed Mashafuddin had a wealth of experience especially in the areas of corporate banking and Islamic finance.

"This will put him in a great position to drive Affin Islamic's operations and business moving forward. 

"I have no doubt he will bring a fresh perspective to lead Affin Islamic as we embark on our A25 strategic plan and continue with our mission to provide Unrivalled Customer Experience and Digital Leadership," he said in a statement today.

Syed Mashafuddin, who was chief executive officer of Principal Islamic Asset Management and Group Islamic Business, has more than 25 years of experience in the financial sector. 

He started his career in the corporate finance department of Commerce International Merchant Bankers Bhd back in 1997 and in 2002 went on to serve its investment banking department where he was involved in numerous fund-raising exercises, restructurings, mergers and acquisitions. 

He holds a joint honours degree in computer science and accounting (B.Sc. Honours) from the University of Manchester, United Kingdom and a Master of Science degree (MSc) in International Banking from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST), the UK.

He is also a CFA Charter holder.
