KUALA LUMPUR: Sime Darby Bhd's automotive arm has secured over 1,000 orders for its BYD electric vehicle (EV) in the first two weeks of its launch.
Sime Darby Motors managing director of retail and distribution Jeffrey Gan said the positive response was highly encouraging with interest from across consumer segments.
Gan said this demonstrated that Malaysians were ready for the future of mobility and were confident in the BYD brand and high-performance vehicles.
"With the growing demand for EVs in the nation, the BYD ATTO 3 is ideal to support more environmentally-conscious lifestyles while providing an unparalleled electric driving experience," he said in a statement.
Gan said BYD remained on track to establishing a strong footprint in Malaysia, with the first BYD showroom now open at TREC KL on Jalan Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur.
"With three additional showrooms slated to open by mid-2023 in Ara Damansara, Penang and Johor, we look forward to enhancing accessibility to our world-class BYD vehicles across the country," he said.
BYD Malaysia Sdn Bhd managing director Eagle Zhao said this was a remarkable achievement by its partner SD Motors, especially in such a short span of time.
Zhao said kicking off from this strong note, BYD Malaysia was confident that the ATTO 3 customers would enjoy peak performance provided by the state-of-the-art features of the vehicle.
"This includes the e-platform 3.0, an exclusive technology platform for more efficient and intelligent vehicles, and the Blade Battery, a game-changing development by BYD to ensure battery safety, enabling a safer cell and higher energy density.
"Through our line-up of innovative vehicles, BYD aims to drive the EV wave in Malaysia and propel the nation towards low carbon mobility," he said.
An all-electric sports utility vehicle, the BYD ATTO 3 is a high-performance EV built on BYD's advanced e-platform 3.0, equipped with intelligence, efficiency, unrivalled safety and aesthetics.
Along with powerful and innovative features, the BYD ATTO 3 has a battery range capable of traveling up to 480 kilometers (km) on a single charge, providing drivers with peace of mind.
The BYD ATTO 3 is available in two variants, priced from RM149,800 for the Standard Range and RM167,800 for the Extended Range.
It comes with a choice of five vibrant colour palettes namely Surf Blue, Parkour Red, Boulder Grey, Forest Green and Ski White.
