Jaguar Land Rover seeks extension of tax breaks for EVs

KUALA LUMPUR: Jaguar Land Rover (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (JLR Malaysia) is hoping for an extension of tax breaks for electric vehicles (EVs) in the upcoming 2023 Budget.

JLR Malaysia managing director Syed Ahmad Muzri Syed Faiz said it was seeking an extension of full import and excise tax exemption for fully-imported EVs while the market was preparing for the growth of the "green" vehicles here.

The company hopes that the incentive will be in place for a few years to support the high demand of EVs in Malaysia.

"We seek for this incentive to be extended because we still have a range of new EV models that have yet to be brought to Malaysia.

"We also hope that this incentive will be continued for several years so industry players like us can bring more EVs and other green vehicle models in the efforts to build a carbon-neutral economy," Syed Ahmad said at the launch of the new Range Rover L460 here today.

The all-new Range Rover L460 is now available at a starting price of RM1.268 million for duty-free and RM2.488 million for duty-paid.

Syed Ahmad said as part of Jaguar Land Rover's drive to create the world's most desirable vehicles,  L460 had reimagined the luxury SUV with exquisite craftsmanship and cutting-edge technology.

"From its design to its innovative capabilities and luxe interior, the new Range Rover is indeed in a class of its own, enabling drivers to enjoy an unmatched driving experience," he added.

Meanwhile, Sime Darby Motors Malaysia, Hong Kong and Macau Jeffrey Gan said with its powerful capabilities and modern sophistication, the L460 was a welcome new addition to the company's portfolio of world-class vehicles.

"As a luxury SUV, we are confident that this new model will be sought after in Malaysia's growing luxury car market," said Gan.

The new Range Rover combines advanced technology with modern luxury to deliver peerless refinement for every occupant and is the first model to use Land Rover's new flexible Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA-Flex).
