PETALING JAYA: Perodua's latest entry-level compact sedan model has garnered 20,100 bookings as of its official launch today.
The 2023 Axia has prices starting from RM38,600 without insurance and in Peninsular Malaysia.
"Our focus with the 2023 Axia is two fold. The first is maximising deliveries to our customers and to convert previous generation Axia bookings to the new model," said Perodua president and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Ahmad.
He said there were 44,000 existing orders with 13,600 of its customers agreeing to convert to the latest model. This was coupled with over 6,500 new bookings since Jan 31 this year.
"Our 314,000 registration and 330,000 production targets for 2023 reflect our commitment to ensure that you bookings and trust will be delivered in the best possible time without compromise on quality," he added.
Monthly sales target of the 2023 Axia is 5,700 units.
The company has set an annual production target of 82,000 units for the model to meet the sales target.
The 2023 Axia comes in four variants of G, X, SE, and AV. Each priced at RM38,600, RM40,000, RM44,000, and RM49,500 respectively.
All of them come with Vehicle Stability Control and traction control, ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, Hill Start Assist, and Perodua's Smart Drive Assist, which is the first for an entry level car.
All variants are also equipped with a one-litre engine paired to a dual-mode continuously various transmission (DCVT) and comes in five colours: Granite Grey, Lava Red, Glittering Silver, Ivory White, and a new Coral Blue.
SE and AV variants come with power-mode, LED day light running lamp (DRL), solar and security film and semi-bucket type with detachable headrest.
Exclusive to the AV variant is a 7.0-inch TFT (Thin-Film transistor) multi-info display, a 9.0-inch display audio, two-tone semi-leather seats and six airbags.
The model is said to potentially travel up to 27.4km/l based on the new Malaysian driving cycle mode — 23.2km/l if measured by the New European Driving Cycle standard, which is above the 21.6km/l for the current Axia.
To date Perodua has sold more than 582,728 Axia units.
The new car is made of 95 per cent local part suppliers with the company aiming to spend RM10 billion on purchasing local parts supply.
