MYAirline gets extension to operate as commercial airline until 2025

KUALA LUMPUR: Low-cost carrier MYAirline Sdn Bhd has received a two-year extension to its air operator certificate (AOC) by the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM).

The certification approval from the country's aviation regulator will allow MYAirline to continue its commercial airline operations until 2025.

MYAirline interim chief executive officer (CEO) and chief operating officer Stuart Cross said the airline had undergone a thorough evaluation of its operations.

This includes maintenance, crew training, safety protocols and organisational management prior to receiving the AOC extension.

"This process involved rigorous assessments and regular audits conducted by CAAM…This achievement underscores our continuous efforts to prioritise safety and compliance in every aspect of our operations," Cross said in a statement.

Air operators in Malaysia must obtain an AOC from CAAM before using their aircraft for commercial purposes.

MYAirline had received its AOC in 2022 that is valid from Oct 1, 2022 to Sept 30, 2023.

Cross replaces former CEO Rayner Teo who resigned last week supposedly due to health considerations as announced by MYAirline yesterday.

However, Business Times had learnt that that Rayner tendered his resignation last Friday after a heated town hall session.

MYAirline currently has nine Airbus A320 in its fleet and Teo had said previously that it planned to have 20 of the European-made narrow-body aircraft by end-2023.
