KUALA LUMPUR: Gamuda Bhd and Asia World Engineering & Construction Co. (AWEC) has been awarded a RM3.45 billion (NTD 23.40 billion) job to design and build the Kaohsiung Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Metropolitan Line (Yellow Line) in Taiwan.
The job was awarded by the Taiwan Kaohsiung City Government's Mass Rapid Transit Bureau, a MRT division established under Taiwan Kaohsiung City Government, on October 25, 2023.
Gamuda, which holds a 88 per cent interest in the unincoporrated joint venture arrangement with AWEC, is expected to bring in revenue of RM3.03 billion from the project.
AWEC is a general civil construction company specialising in geotechnical, hydraulic, architectural and civil engineering in Taiwan.
The MRT project is the second railway project in Taiwan undertaken by Gamuda and AWEC joint venture.
The first was for TaoYuan City Underground Railway Project Package CJ18 secured in October 2022.
The MRT project is a 4.4 kilometre railway track located within NiaoSong District, comprising 3.5 kilometre underground twin bored tunnels (with 3 underground stations) and 0.9km of elevated tracks (with one elevated station).
It is part of a substantial infrastructure initiative currently underway in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, with the primary goal of expanding and improving the Kaohsiung city's public transportation system within the NiaoSong District.
Gamuda closed 0.22 per cent lower at RM4.6 a share today.
